If you take care of your Jiu-Jitsu gi….it will take care of you!
There is nothing worse than spending a lot of money on a nice Jiu-Jitsu gi and having it shrink or destroy before it’s time.
Don’t destroy your Jiu-Jitsu gi!!!!
A good Jiu-Jitsu gi can cost a good amount of money and respectively, it should last you a good amount of time. In order to have a jiu-jitsu gi stay in proper order, you have to care for it as a car fanatic would care for their automobile. Most people have heard horror stories of someone buying a jiu-jitsu gi only to have it shrink to the point a Smurf would feel uncomfortable in it. Or you notice a training partner’s brand new jiu-jitsu gi looks like the sun beat it up more than you did. If you take care of your gi, there is no reason you shouldn’t have a long happy relationship with it, as you tap out opponents together.
Do be "that person"...
Here are some pointers:

Hang dry your jiu-jitsu gi after each wash: Never use the dryer especially with heat…this will cause it to shrink like George Costanza in cold water. If you must use the dryer make sure you do not use heat

Be careful of the sun when air drying it: Just because we said to air dry it….don’t forget the sun will heat it up and potentially shrink it.

Tie your jiu-jitsu gi pants string before washing: Do you really want to spend half a day threading that string back though your pants after it made a Shawshank Redemption move in the washer?

Don’t leave your jiu-jitsu gi in your car or gym bag for long after wearing it: Don’t forget, in most places it can get pretty hot in the summer and your car is no exception…a hot car will help shrink your sweaty gi….plus your car and bag will stink.

Never use bleach or bleach products: Yes you can spot clean a white jiu-jitsu gi with a little bleach, but don’t add bleach to the machine. Make sure you check your detergent to see if it has bleach in it…or kiss that sharpe color good-bye.

Use color safe detergent: This will help maintain your sharp look.
There are many tips to jiu-jitsu gi care but these are some that will keep you and your gi healthy. Plus nobody wants to roll with a person and a stinky gi.
